I've never been great at introductions, but you have to rip the band-aid off at some point if you want to start something new. I'll try to keep this brief but concise, which is what I hope this blog will continue to be throughout time. I'll be posting new dubstep music announcements, trench or riddim dubstep reviews, and even some product reviews for music production equipment further down the line.
I'm Drew, and I'm a massive fan of music. I like virtually all music, but I've been particularly drawn to electronic music - especially dubstep/tearout - since around 2010 when I first heard "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" by Skrillex. I enjoyed what I referred to as "techno" before that (mostly trance with some hardstyle if we're being genre sticklers), but I considered dubstep to be random noises. I even went as far as calling it "not real music" for a short period. Yikes.
But something legitimately changed inside me when I heard that Skrillex song. I was fascinated by the guttural, menacing sounds of the drop. And the sweet yet raw melody that starts the song and weaves the drops together. I was hooked in a massive way. I devoured the entire EP and began searching for other artists in the genre. It also kicked off my music production hobby, which has only served to enrich and deepen my understanding and love for not only the music itself, but also the underlying work that artists pour into making tracks in the genre.
So that leads us to this website. I've been consuming and producing bass music for over a decade now, and constantly review and critique songs to myself. So I figured why not start sharing these thoughts and add my voice to the community? I hope to shine the light on smaller artists I find and give my opinions on the big releases too.
If you're here reading this and you've gotten this far in my introduction, I'd like to thank you. Hopefully my words will provide some value or entertainment to you. And if you're a smaller artist looking for a track/EP/album review or you know of one who'd like one, please feel free to reach out.
